
Madagascar president appoints army general as PM to defuse protests

Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina on Monday named an army general as prime minister in a bid to calm growing unrest over his rule. Security forces fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters in the capital Antananarivo, injuring at least one.
